A Sample Wine Tour

On the way to our first winery, you and your guests sip chilled champagne and listen to soft music, glancing out the tinted windows at the verdant sunlit hills, burgeoning with ripe purple grapes. We arrive at a beautifully rustic winery and, after a leisurely tasting conducted by the winemaker himself, we're off to a hillside bodega.  Here, we can arrange a custom gourmet picnic lunch to your exact specifications (additional charge, please call for details). After lunch, we visit an old, established winery where a knowledgeable guide takes you through the century-old ivy-covered stone buildings ending at the tasting room where, guess what -- more wine tasting! There's still time for one or two more boutique wineries that you have chosen or we have suggested. All this in air-conditioned comfort, in a luxurious Limousine or Sedan*, driven by a courteous professional driver. Bring a camera -- you'll want to remember this day for years to come.

Napa Valley Wine Tour AVAs

In the United States, the term "American Viticultural Areas" (AVA) is used as opposed to "Appellations" as used in France. At least 85% of a wine bottle's content must come from an AVA in order for that AVA to appear on the label as the source. This is no indication of the quality of the wine, just the source of 85% or more of the grapes. AVAs are geographic locations that have the same climate, soil, and elevation and similar properties that give the wine a certain characteristic.

AVAs are “official” grape growing regions that have been designated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF). However, the term appellation is probably used more often than AVA by the general public.

"Napa Valley" itself is an appellation with many other smaller appellations within its boarders. Each of these appellations possess a distinct microclimate and terrain that help distinguish recognizable characteristics for the grapes grown within them. Vineyards match the grapes they grow and the agricultural techniques that are best suited to the terrain and microclimate of their appellation.
